On arrival parents take their children to their classes where they are greeted by the teachers and are encouraged to participate in any of the activities set up in the classroom. These could be drawing, painting, puzzles, manipulative toys, cutting, sticking, play dough, water play and many more. During this period the teacher observes and encourages the children to create, explore and discover!
Circle time is an integral part of the day
When the themes come into play
Each age group goes outside at different times for an hour. Gross motor skills such as running, jumping, climbing, playing with balls (throwing, kicking) are reinforced in the playground. “Pretend play” sharing, taking turns, communicating and socializing among children are skills also prompted by the teachers during this time.
Story time is an essential part of the school program as it develops the children's concentration, social skills, communication skills, and encourages their imagination and creativity. Pictures from the book are shown to them and sometimes other forms of visual aids are used to give a new dimension to stories. These include felt or magnetic boards, with individual characters or objects, hand puppets or even dramatization by the children themselves.
Through story time short discussions can follow, and children are given the opportunity to express their opinion and their understanding of the story.
At this time of the day, the children can relax and sit at the tables that are set up with various activities and toys promoting concentration, socialization, team work, turn-taking, sharing, and many more skills until their lunch time.
Lunch time is different for all the classes. All the children sit together and are taught table manners. Parents have the option to order catering or bring lunch from home for their children. This is a time to sit together as a class and a time to develop their social skills.
